# Preparing Communities for Infrastructure Development Conversations

InnovateUS workshop · 12 January 2027 · upcoming: registration on the workshop page

Major infrastructure proposals can raise complex questions about jobs, public services, land use, environmental impacts, energy and water use, aesthetics, and other community priorities. Learn how state and local governments can help residents understand proposed developments and participate meaningfully in conversations and decisions that affect their communities.

Using data centers and other infrastructure projects as examples, explore practical approaches to sharing information, identifying affected communities, gathering local knowledge, surfacing priorities and concerns, and creating opportunities for dialogue before key decisions and commitments are made.

Part of the series [AI Data Centers: Community Engagement, Agreements, and Accountability](https://innovate-us.org/workshop-series/ai-data-centers-community-engagement-agreements-and-accountability).
