In a collaboration with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and his administration, InnovateUS produced an explainer video to help the state’s public professionals better understand how generative AI can be responsibly incorporated into their day-to-day work.

The video serves as part of Governor Murphy’s latest initiative, Executive Order 346, which commits the state to create a public sector training program to help the New Jersey state government’s public sector professionals use generative artificial intelligence tools to improve the delivery of services to Garden State residents, businesses, and institutions. A free, at-your-own-pace training for New Jersey’s state workforce created by InnovateUS about the development, use, and risks of AI will launch next year, which will also include live workshops targeted to state workers.

The course will be available to all public sector professionals for free through InnovateUS. Sign up to learn more and reserve your spot.

From the State of New Jersey’s press release about the partnership:

“Generative artificial intelligence has the potential to unlock new opportunities for the public sector to engage with residents at scale, effectively use data in new ways, communicate more inclusively, and deliver more effective and equitable services to New Jerseyans,” said Beth Simone Noveck, the state of New Jersey's Chief Innovation Officer, and Director of the Burnes Center for Social Change which houses InnovateUS “In order to realize that potential, we must invest in training public workers to use emerging technologies in a responsible, equitable, and secure manner.”

Additionally, Governor Murphy announced a new policy intended to guide state employees to responsibly use generative AI. The new policy empowers state government employees to use generative artificial intelligence tools, while ensuring the use of the tools is appropriately disclosed, all outputs are independently fact-checked, and that no confidential or protected information or data is shared.

“New Jersey’s public sector professionals are absolutely essential to ensuring that the Garden State leads the nation as the best place in this country to live, work, and raise a family,” said Governor Murphy. “We must continue to invest in our public sector workforce and equip them with the tools, skills, and knowledge to deliver best-in-class services to our residents, businesses, and institutions. Providing this guidance is just the first step to empowering our public workers to leverage innovative technologies like artificial intelligence by ensuring that our public professionals can use these powerful tools responsibly and confidently.”
