Ohio Department of Administrative Services partners with InnovateUS to equip public sector legal professionals with responsible AI skills
COLUMBUS, Ohio — InnovateUS today announced that Ohio is the first state in the nation to make InnovateUS training eligible for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit. The milestone comes with the launch of a new two-part course series now available to the State of Ohio workforce: Responsible AI for Public Sector Legal Professionals. Participants who complete both parts of the series can earn up to 3.0 CLE credits.
DAS and the AI Council partnered with InnovateUS to offer the CLE compliant training, which explores how AI is transforming the legal profession and how lawyers and their staff can responsibly use AI to better serve the public. Part 1 covers generative AI fundamentals, including effective prompt writing and practical daily applications, while teaching learners to identify and mitigate risks specific to public sector legal practice. Part 2 explores more advanced topics, including data governance, AI project design, and organizational AI policy development, while addressing broader societal challenges such as copyright implications. Both courses include hands-on exercises conducted within the state's secure training environments.
The courses are designed for public sector lawyers and legal support staff seeking to use generative AI safely and responsibly in their day-to-day work, however the training is open to any State of Ohio employee or contractor interested in the subject matter.
"Ohio's decision to obtain CLE credit for InnovateUS training reflects a growing recognition that responsible AI literacy is now a core competency for public sector legal work, not a specialty skill," said Beth Simone Noveck, Founder and Director of InnovateUS. "We're proud to partner with DAS and the AI Council to give Ohio's legal professionals practical, hands-on tools to serve the public well in an AI-enabled world."
