Part 1

Using GenAI in Government

Course Length: 1 hour 5 min.

Learn practical applications of GenAI to enhance your daily government work and gain skills to identify opportunities where AI can improve public service delivery.

01

Course overview

This module introduces the course and highlights the transformative potential of Generative AI (GenAI) in the public sector. Participants will gain an understanding of how GenAI can assist them in their work through hands-on activities and best practices. The importance of delivering value while maintaining public trust and safety is emphasized.

02

Explaining Generative AI: What it is

In this module, participants will learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (GenAI) in simple terms. The module explores GenAI's ability to understand, create, and synthesize knowledge based on training data. Examples demonstrate GenAI's capabilities in generating text, images, and engaging in multi-modal interaction, as well as its potential to save time and improve outcomes in government work.

03

Effective use part 1: How Generative AI can help your day-to-day

This module provides a systematic understanding of GenAI's application to public sector work. Participants will learn about ten key areas where GenAI can streamline tasks and be encouraged to experiment with different platforms. The module covers applications such as drafting content, brainstorming ideas, proofreading, summarizing information, role-playing, accelerating learning, coding, analyzing data, and more.

04

Effective use part 2: Generative AI best practices

Focusing on prompt engineering, this module teaches participants how to craft effective instructions for GenAI. A prompting framework with five components (Instruction, Role, Context, Format, and Example) is introduced, along with best practices for simplicity, clarity, flexibility, and efficiency. Participants will engage in hands-on exercises to refine prompts and explore techniques to enhance GenAI interactions.

05

Course conclusion

The course conclusion summarizes the key learning points, including understanding GenAI, and mastering prompt engineering. Participants are encouraged to continue their learning journey through additional resources and courses on risk management and organizational AI deployment.

Part 2

Understanding Risks and Building Resilience

Course Length: 38 minutes.

Explore risks associated with GenAI including privacy, hallucinations, and bias, while examining broader societal challenges like copyright and deepfakes.

01

Course overview

This module introduces the course and highlights the transformative potential of Generative AI (GenAI) in the public sector. Participants will learn the risks associated with these powerful tools, such as data privacy, hallucinations, and bias. The importance of delivering value while maintaining public trust and safety is emphasized.

02

Overcoming risks: Your individual use

This module addresses the responsible use of GenAI by discussing potential risks and mitigation strategies. Participants will learn about data privacy, hallucinations (inaccurate outputs), and bias as key challenges. The module provides practical guidance and organizational policies to assess and avoid these risks, along with strategies to identify and mitigate them. Five crucial behaviors for responsible GenAI use are presented.

03

Societal challenges

In this module, participants will explore the broader societal risks and uncertainties surrounding GenAI. The module focuses on copyright issues, deep fakes, astroturfing, and the private ownership of GenAI models. Participants will learn about the potential misuse of GenAI for deception, the challenges of identifying AI-generated content in public feedback, and the concentration of power among a few tech companies. The importance of aligning GenAI use with public values and the well-being of communities is emphasized.

04

Course conclusion

The final module summarizes the key learning points of the course, mitigating AI risks and navigating societal challenges. Participants are encouraged to continue their learning journey through additional resources and courses on advanced topics and organizational AI deployment. The course conclusion emphasizes the importance of harnessing the power of GenAI responsibly and effectively in public sector roles.
