Facial Recognition: Applications, Risks, and Limits

Led by: Mihir Kshirsagar

Facial recognition is one of the most controversial AI tools in public safety. This session will explore how law enforcement agencies are using facial recognition, from suspect identification to surveillance, and examine the ethical, legal, and technical challenges it raises. Case examples and recent regulatory trends will inform a discussion on safeguards, accuracy, consent, and oversight. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of where facial recognition can be effective—and where its limits must be clearly defined.
