Learn how generative AI can support families by translating, simplifying, and summarizing complex Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This session showcases AIEP. a new tool developed by the Burnes Center for Social Change's AI for Impact program in partnership with Innovate Public Schools. The tool helps parents better understand and engage with their child’s educational plan, making advocacy easier and more effective. During this workshop the research, tech leadership of the project will be accompanied by a parent leader to launch the tool and present the process and. final products of the AIEP project.

  • Identify how generative AI technologies can transform complex educational documents into accessible formats for families, demonstrating the practical applications of the Burnes Center's translation and summarization tool for IEPs
  • Analyze real-world examples of how AI-assisted document simplification empowers parents to better advocate for their children's educational needs and participate more effectively in the IEP process
  • Explore implementation strategies for schools and districts to incorporate similar AI tools into their family engagement practices, with specific attention to equity, language access, and cultural responsiveness
