Understanding personal strengths
Led by: Anita McGahan
Most of us spend a great deal of time trying to overcome our weaknesses. Indeed, performance feedback tends to center on gaps between our individual behavior and the optimum for the organization. We are hardwired to focus on our deficiencies. As much effort and time that we spend on trying to be better at things that an organization needs but that are not in our sweet spots, the hard truth is that our best contributors are not likely to be built on achieving this alignment. It is our strengths that lead us to greatness.
In this session, you will have a chance to take stock of what you do when you’re at your very best. We will think about what your best collaborators would say about you. What do you love to do? And what will it take to do more of what makes you great? In your organization, what enables you to focus? And what dumps you into the morass of striving to overcome your weaknesses? We will end with some tools that you can use to make a plan for your personal development that draws on these insights.
Participants will:
-
Identify the strengths, habits, and contributions that are most closely associated with their best work.
-
Reflect on the organizational conditions, relationships, and responsibilities that support or hinder their ability to contribute at a high level.
-
Develop a practical approach to personal development that builds on strengths while making more intentional choices about growth, focus, and impact.
