Spaces: Localizing Evidence, Action, and Accountability
The same policy or program can produce different results across communities. Infrastructure and institutional capacity shape what can be implemented. Environmental and economic conditions influence the opportunities available, while public trust and previous government decisions affect how communities respond. Together, these conditions help determine who benefits and which challenges remain.
In this framework, spaces are more than meeting places. They include the geographic, institutional, workplace, professional, identity-based, and issue-based communities in which people live, work, organize, and experience the outcomes of government action.
This session examines how government staff connect skills and stories to these settings. Speakers will explore how policies and programs are adapted to local conditions, how governments recognize differences among communities, and how agencies determine whether their actions created meaningful opportunities or addressed important challenges.
