The Prompting Lab Office Hours: Bring Your AI Questions

After learning the basics of prompt structure, the next step is practice. This follow-up office hours session gives you a chance to bring your questions, test prompts, troubleshoot challenges, and learn from peers who are also beginning to use generative AI in their work.
Led as an interactive, peer-to-peer session, this office hours workshop will help you refine prompts for real public sector tasks, from drafting emails and summarizing documents to preparing meeting materials, translating complex ideas into plain language, or organizing information. You will have space to ask what is working, what is not, and how to improve your prompts while keeping accuracy, judgment, privacy, and accountability in mind.
This session is designed for public professionals who attended the introductory Prompting Lab or who already understand the basic elements of a prompt and want guided practice.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Improve prompts based on feedback, examples, and peer discussion.
  • Troubleshoot common prompting challenges, including unclear outputs, wrong tone, missing context, or overly broad responses.
  • Adapt prompt structures to fit different public sector tasks and audiences.
  • Assess when an AI-generated response needs revision, verification, or additional human judgment.
  • Share practical prompting approaches that can be applied in day-to-day government work.
