Using Source-Grounded AI to Turn Sources into Written and Visual Communications

Led by: Deborah Stine

Public professionals are often required to interpret complex programs, analysis, and large volumes of information, and translate that material into clear, usable communication for different audiences. This session focuses on using source-grounded AI to generate outputs that improve understanding and support communication for government executives, policymakers, and the public.

Participants will use NotebookLM Studio tools—and comparable approaches in other AI tools—to synthesize uploaded policy and program documents, public feedback, and technical materials into structured outputs such as plain-language briefs, visual infographics, and executive memos.

The session emphasizes adapting content for different audiences and shifting toward more relational communication approaches by tailoring outputs to the needs of policymakers, stakeholders, and the public. Through guided exercises, participants will practice turning source materials into written and visual outputs that support policy research, issue framing, onboarding, and internal knowledge sharing.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify gaps in existing documentation using source materials and public feedback

  • Generate visual outputs (such as infographics) to support public communication

  • Draft concise one-page policy briefs for policymakers and public audiences

  • Write structured executive memos for leadership

  • Apply these outputs to support research, synthesis, and communication in public sector settings
