UX in Government: How to Hire, Build Skills, and Grow Capacity
Led by: Lisa Carter , Mallory Chacon , Paul Gehrig , Erick Pfleiderer , Cindy Phan & Keith Wilson
User Experience (UX) practices can help governments design services that are easier to use, more inclusive, and better aligned with what people actually need. This 90-minute virtual event will focus on how government teams can grow their UX capacity, bring UX into their everyday work, and attract qualified UX professionals to public service roles. It’s designed for government staff interested in building internal UX capability, individuals exploring UX careers in government, and anyone who wants to learn more about how UX can support better outcomes. The event will start with a 60 minute panel featuring UX professionals who work in and with government agencies. Panelists will share practical insights, examples, and answer audience questions about what it takes to do UX work in this space. After the panel, attendees will join one of two 30 minute breakout sessions. One will focus on implementing UX practices within government teams. The other will cover strategies for hiring and supporting UX talent. Both are intended to give participants concrete ideas they can take back to their work.
- Learn how government teams can grow their UX capacity
- Understand how to bring UX into your everyday work
- Learn best practices for attracting qualified UX professionals to public service roles
