DuPage County, Illinois, has officially partnered with InnovateUS to provide no-cost, at-your-own-pace training on responsible artificial intelligence (AI) use for its workforce, which will equip county employees with the knowledge they need to use Generative AI tools in their day-to-day work.
This training will supplement the county’s AI Usage Guidelines. These guidelines aim to encourage ethical, responsible, and secure use of this technology in government activities, while also adhering to existing privacy and security standards.
As part of this partnership, the county is offering four courses on responsible AI use, Using GenAI in Government, Understanding Risks and Building Resilience, Designing AI Projects in Government, and Implementing AI Projects in Government, on its learning management system (LMS). Employees are required to complete the Using Generative AI at Work course before using AI technology in government initiatives and projects. This training will inform county workers about responsible AI practices, ensuring they understand both the capabilities and limitations of AI tools.
“DuPage County is dedicated to responsibly leveraging artificial intelligence to improve the services we offer our residents,” said Anthony McPhearson, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Information Technology Department of DuPage County. “By incorporating AI into our operations, we are enhancing responsiveness, simplifying service delivery, and strengthening our core values of innovation, operational excellence, and public trust. Through our partnership with InnovateUS, we are providing our staff with the training and tools needed to use this technology ethically, securely, and transparently, ensuring that AI acts as a force multiplier for the high-quality support our residents expect and deserve.”
InnovateUS provides no-cost, at-your-own pace, and live learning on data, digital, innovation, and AI skills for public service professionals.
"This partnership with DuPage County enables us to continue our mission of enabling public service professionals to deliver more effective and equitable policies and services,” said Beth Simone Noveck, Founder of InnovateUS and Director of the Burnes Center for Social Change and the GovLab. "We are grateful to be a part of DuPage County’s launch of their AI Usage Guidelines, and look forward to the innovations that this technology brings to the lives of county residents.”
In addition to no-cost GenAI training, DuPage County and InnovateUS have launched a webpage to host InnovateUS’s non-AI training for state employees. These trainings, consisting of asynchronous courses and 60-minute workshops, focus on foundational digital innovation concepts such as human-centered design and equitable engagement.
