Health Information in the AI Era: Combating Misinformation and Reaching the Public

DateOctober 15, 2026, 2:00 PM ET
Duration60 mins

Public health agencies are entering a new information environment in which artificial intelligence is changing not only how information is created and distributed, but also how residents search for, interpret, and trust health guidance. AI has the potential to accelerate misinformation and deepen confusion—but it also creates new opportunities for public institutions to communicate more effectively and build stronger relationships with communities.

This session explores the evolving landscape of health misinformation and examines how AI can both amplify and counter these dynamics. Participants will discuss approaches for evaluating and monitoring AI-enabled communication systems and consider how public agencies can use these tools responsibly.

The workshop will focus on practical strategies already beginning to emerge across the field, including AI-powered chatbots that provide trusted guidance, community-based information channels and kiosks, and more personalized communication approaches. The goal is to help participants move beyond passive information delivery toward more responsive, adaptive, and trusted forms of public engagement.
